Marble head of Athena: The so-called Athena Medici, ca. 138–92 CE. The Metropolitan Museum of Art, 2007.293.
Caption and print note A Roman copy of a Greek statue type of about 430 BCE, not an original by Pheidias. The eyes were once inset; wooden, gilded parts of the helmet are lost. The current museum date is displayed anomalously as “ca. 138–92 CE”; the caption uses its secure period label rather than silently correcting that string.
