Three richly draped daughters of Cecrops gather beneath a broad tree as one opens Minerva’s forbidden basket, revealing the infant Erichthonios. A conspicuous crow watches from the branches. This finely worked Ovidian scene supplies a compelling narrative counterpart to ancient images of Athena and the birth of Erichthonios.
